Harmony - Team 1

Hello, my name is Jen (she/her), and I am very excited to officially be joining the Harmony One Team as a midwife this summer!

My dream of becoming a midwife was sparked as a young teen when I discovered birth stories in the Birthing Magazine and in Ina May Gaskin books. These stories described stories of inspiring, strong, empowered birthing people that trusted their bodies and were supported by their incredible midwives. The midwife's role in these stories was inspiring and I knew in my heart, that I would one day be one.

My journey to becoming a midwife was not direct. In the late 1990s, when I graduated high school, midwifery education was not an option in Alberta and so I embraced my passion for the environment, and animals and became a biologist. I obtained a MSc in Ecology and a BSc in Environmental Science, both from the University of Calgary. A couple of decades later, after having three beautiful home water births, under midwifery care, I decided to follow my heart and go back to school to become a midwife

To me, midwifery care is about relationship, respect, informed choice, and autonomy. I love building relationships with clients and their families so I can support them throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys.

Outside of midwifery, I love travelling the world, backcountry camping and paddling with my three beautiful kids, partner, and dog.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to journey with birthing people and their families.

Thank you in advance for allowing me to share in your experiences.
