I was born at home and grew up learning about taking care of one's own health and trusting in the natural process of birth. My call into midwifery came when I realized that many women desire to experience pregnancy and childbirth as an empowering event in the comfort and safety of their own homes. I did a three-year midwifery course and a 1.5-year practicum at a birth center in Grand Prairie, Texas. During this time, I attended home and birth center births, water births, VBACs, twins, and breech births. I obtained the Texas midwifery license in November 2003. I returned home to Quebec when I could not obtain a USA work visa. Unfortunately, applying for licensure in QC was impossible for several years while the government and midwifery board overhauled the integration process. During the wait, I attended a few births in India and Mexico. In September 2009, I was among the first group to receive the QC midwifery license through the new integration program. I then worked as a midwife in a far-northern hospital in Kuujjuaq, QC. What I love about being a midwife is caring for families in a way that makes them feel that they are at the center of the occasion and care-giving and seeing the joy and confidence that this allows them to experience. I place a large importance on preventing complications through good nutrition, exercise, and minimal intervention. I have a deep trust in the Creator of life and Designer of birth. I believe that my role as a midwife is to accompany a woman in her journey and to guard her and her baby's safety without interfering with the natural and wonderful process of bringing forth new life.
