Dear Moonstone families,

I have been on the midwifery path since I was 21. I had been working as a baker in Ontario, going to school and working on a list of what I wanted to be when I grew up, and then I heard about midwives. Something clicked for me and I knew what I had to do... I moved to Maine a couple of years later and attended Birthwise Midwifery School. Maine is one of the loveliest places on earth, and I appreciated every second I spent there. I attended births with midwives in Maine and then I left, so I could work with as many types of midwives and women possible, while I had the privilege of being a student. I attended hospital births in St. Petersburg, Russia, birth center births in El Paso, Texas and I apprenticed with midwives at a beautiful water birth center in Portland, Oregon. Once I graduated from midwifery school, I registered as a midwife in Manitoba. I lived for almost two years in The Pas, Manitoba and for two years in Brandon, Manitoba. I had many diverse experiences in Manitoba and am thankful to have grown so tremendously as a midwife among the forests of the North and the grain fields of the prairies!

I feel quite happy to return to Calgary after almost 20 years away, and while I love rural living, I definitely appreciate being closer to Thai food, the mountains and warmer winter weather. I have a little girl, who was born into the hands of midwives in Kingston, Ontario. I have learned many lessons from my daughter and I find it amazing to see how the lessons from motherhood weave into the nuances of being a midwife.
